PhD position in BioNanoPhotonics at Amsterdam in Netherlands 2021

The University of Amsterdam invites applications for a PhD position in BioNanoPhotonics in the 2021/22 academic session.

Are you exceptionally interested in interdisciplinary research? Are you a motivated young researcher? They are seeking a PhD candidate who is interested in developing highly effective, multifunctional luminescent nanomaterials for medical application.

The project is part of the consortium ‘Photonics Translational Research – Medical Photonics’ including 5 universities and TNO, 3 hospitals and 12 companies of the Netherlands, funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research under perspective programme. You are expected to prepare high quality, multifunctional ultra-small luminescent nanoplatforms, with the aid of sophisticated characterization and spectroscopy methods, as well as theoretical model calculation.

Worth of Award

  • Your salary will be €2,395 gross per month in the first year and will increase to €3,061 in the final year, based on full-time employment and in keeping with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities
  • Secondary benefits at Dutch universities are attractive and include 8% holiday pay and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.

Eligibility

  • An MSc degree in chemistry or chemical engineering or physical chemistry;
  • a strong background of organic/inorganic material synthesis, characterization, biofunctionalization and relevant equipment;
  • experience in luminescence upconversion nanomaterial preparation and luminescence mechanism study;
  • excellent communication skills in English;
  • proven experience in the areas described above are preferred.
